Vacancy description

Claims Associate – P&I Insurance

London | Hybrid working | Salary up to £90,000 plus benefits

We are working with an established marine insurer to recruit a Claims Associate with strong P&I experience for a team supporting cruise and ferry operators.

This is an opportunity to manage a varied international caseload, with a substantial focus on passenger and crew personal injury claims. You will take ownership of matters from notification through to resolution, combining sound legal analysis with practical, commercial advice and responsive client service.

The role

You will handle a broad range of P&I claims, including complex and high-value personal injury matters. Working with a high degree of independence, you will have access to experienced colleagues for guidance on strategy and significant decisions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Investigating claims, assessing liability and advising insured shipowners and operators on the available options.
  • Managing negotiations and progressing claims towards commercially appropriate outcomes.
  • Instructing and working with correspondents, lawyers, surveyors and other external advisers.
  • Building strong relationships with insured clients, brokers and professional contacts.
  • Maintaining accurate, up-to-date electronic claims records and managing competing deadlines.
  • Identifying loss-prevention issues and supporting underwriting objectives.
  • Supporting junior colleagues through appropriate delegation and guidance.
  • Contributing to improvements in claims procedures and systems, and preparing material for industry publications.

About you

You will have significant P&I claims experience gained within a P&I Club, marine insurer, law firm, shipowner or another relevant maritime organisation. Direct experience of personal injury claims involving passengers and crew will be particularly relevant.

You should bring:

  • The ability to manage claims independently and recognise when to seek further guidance.
  • Strong negotiation skills and clear written and verbal communication.
  • Sound commercial judgement and a practical approach to resolving disputes.
  • Experience building effective relationships with clients and external advisers.
  • Strong organisation, attention to detail and the ability to prioritise a varied caseload.
  • A collaborative approach and a willingness to support colleagues and develop your knowledge.

What is on offer

The role offers a competitive salary, hybrid working and a comprehensive benefits package, including private healthcare and pension contributions. You will join a supportive team with structured career development, professional training and access to the International Group’s Protection & Indemnity Qualification.
