The commodities markets are a highly important facet of global trade, effecting both food and energy. Moreover, disputes within the sector require, at times, instantaneous solutions, to ensure the successful provision of both hard and soft commodities to the market. We are delighted to be working with our longstanding client, in Singapore, to hire a commodities associate into their team to contribute to their busy practice.
Our client, whilst having an office in Singapore, is a global international firm with a strong reputation in shipping and energy. The team in Singapore, led by prominent and well-known partners, are seeking a commodities litigator with experience in both hard and soft commodities.
The team work across the sector and are regularly involved in multi-jurisdictional disputes for both trade arbitrations including LME, Gafta and FOSFA, in addition to arbitrations subject to ICC, LMIA and SIAC rules. In addition, the team have been involved in numerous high-profile cases involving traders and commodities houses in relation to losses, exposures and claims.
The position also offers non-contentious exposure in advising ship owners, and operators in relation drafting contracts for carriage of goods by sea. Finally, the opportunity to lead business development across the region is welcomed and desired.
The ideal candidate will be an England and Wales qualified associate with at least 4 years’ post-qualification experience and ideally already have had some exposure to commodities litigation, although those currently working within shipping will be accepted.
