VACANCY DESCRIPTION

As one of the busiest and most developed port cities in Asia, Hong Kong is home to many of the world’s largest shipowners and their offices, naturally lending itself to be a hub for the IG clubs.

Our client has traditionally held a strong foothold in the Chinese market and has one of the larger P&I teams in Hong Kong, which, following successful renewals, they are now looking to expand with a senior hire.

Working primarily on FD&D claims, you will be working alongside excellent colleagues in a team where the majority are legally qualified and so retain their complex legal work in-house. This is an interesting and rare opportunity to strike that balance between work and life quality. Also, it is a fantastic opportunity if you are looking to take that first step away from private practice or if you are looking to continue your progression within the club market.

Given the nature of the work, you will be at an advantage if you have gained significant dry shipping experience, though those that are Common Law qualified and working within a club will also be considered. Working on and running high-value claims, you should ideally have at least 4 years of post-qualification experience within shipping law.

If you are interested in this or similar roles, please call James Candappa at +65 3138 1778.

Hong Kong

Senior in-house positions are rare and highly sought after. Accordingly, we are very excited to present an opportunity to join an IG P&I Club as a Senior Claims Handler in their Hong Kong Office.

Additionally, due to the seniority of your role, you can expect significant exposure to major members of the Club. Your job is to manage those relationships while traveling with and working with underwriters to develop new relationships.

From our discussions with the hiring manager, the key highlights of this role include:

  • Prestige. Even amongst the IG Clubs, our client stands out in terms of tonnage and reputation.

  • Significant remuneration. Our client pays at the top end of the market.

As the position is relatively senior, you will have at least 5 years of experience in dry shipping law, with a proven track record of operating within the Chinese market and across shipping. Our client has also shown a preference for England & Wales, Hong Kong or PRC qualified lawyers. Proficiency in mandarin is a prerequisite considering our client’s members.

Claims Executive
£70000 - £120000
Hong Kong

We are working with an established client, an IG P&I Club, that is looking to welcome a Claims Executive into their Hong Kong office. We have previously recruited lawyers into this team and have an in-depth knowledge of their work culture and hiring preferences.
